October 1, 1975 - September 30, 2011

The “for sale” sign for the house went up Friday afternoon, September 30. That was one day shy of the 36th anniversary of buying it.

Though not present for the sign’s placement, Sharleen and I experienced mixed emotions.

Finishing up left us with a sense of regret that we would soon be leaving our home where years of memories were made, we raised a son and we experienced joy and sadness.

Fortunately that sense of regret gave way to excitement and relief.

The excitement stemmed from the realization we are soon to embark on a new phase of our life, a new house and new memories. The relief resulted from putting body and soul into getting the house ready to sell from the Tuesday after Labor Day until we finished vacuuming the morning of the 30th.

In that span we had the family room, garage and laundry room painted, installed a new door (twice), undertook a major landscaping project, filled up our existing storage unit and began filling up a second one, did numerous other minor projects and cleaned and scrubbed and cleaned and scrubbed and cleaned and scrubbed some more.

And when we were done we were off for, at long last, “out there.”
